Second Chance Homes
Availability
This pilot program is currently in St. Louis County. Four homes in Aurora, Chisholm, and Eveleth are being rehabilitated.
Program Description
This program gives vacant, tax-forfeited homes a second chance. Instead of demolition, these properties are transformed into safe, affordable housing through full renovations including new roofs, siding, HVAC systems, kitchens, bathrooms, and energy-efficient upgrades.
AEOA, a licensed and LEAD-certified contractor, manages all work with local partners to ensure quality. This program creates homes for first-time buyers and workforce residents while reducing waste and preserving housing stock.
After rehab, homes will be sold to qualifying buyers through local lenders. Proceeds fund future projects, making this a sustainable housing solution for St. Louis County.
This program is made possible through the generous support and partnership of Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation Board, Greater Minnesota Housing Fund, DEED, and St. Louis County.

AEOA received funds direct appropriation from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. Mark Page, Executive Director and Dave Johnson, Director of Housing Services directly oversee and manage this grant contract and grant funds. To reach either of them, please call: 1-800- 662-5711
