Constructing Pathways to Success

YouthBuild is a community-based pre-apprenticeship program that provides job training and educational opportunities for at-risk youth ages 16-24 who have dropped out of high school or are in an alternative school setting and are interested in developing skills in the construction field.

Classroom and Hands-on Learning

Youth receive construction and carpentry skills while working toward their GED or high school diploma. Construction training takes place in both classroom settings and at work sites. Construction projects focus on low-income housing and non-profit organizations. Youth work on several projects ranging from demolition and renovation to new construction.

All youth are offered:
  • CPR certification
  • OSHA certification
  • NCCER training
  • Workplace skills via a paid work experience

Construction projects provide skills in the following areas:
  • Reading a tape measure
  • Using handheld and power tools
  • Estimating project needs
  • Demolition
  • Sheetrock and mudding
  • Painting/staining
  • Installing cabinets, flooring, windows, banisters, and stairs
  • Concrete work
