Homeless? Call 2-1-1

If you or someone you know is experiencing homelessness, the first step is to call 2-1-1 for a housing screen. Once completed, an assessment will be scheduled with a case manager who will help you secure safe and affordable housing. Call 2-1-1 if you are:

  • Homeless right now
  • Living somewhere without working utilities
  • Living with family and do not have space of your own
  • Going to be homeless within 2 weeks
Emergency Shelters
  • Bill’s House (Virginia) – 12 beds
  • Home on the Range (Hibbing) – 54 beds

Our shelters provide 24/7 staffing and on-site case management to guide residents toward permanent housing. Our team offers personalized support and connects individuals to resources that help them successfully transition to stable living.

Homeless Youth Services

Youth Foyer

The Youth Foyer provides safe, affordable permanent housing and supportive services for homeless youth aged 18-25 in northern St. Louis County. The foyer consists of 13 efficiency units and two two-bedroom apartments for parenting youth.

The AEOA Youth Counselor conducts outreach to youth experiencing homelessness and provides intensive case management services to youth participating in the Virginia Youth Foyer project. The Youth Councilor helps young people in the Foyer program achieve the skills necessary to transition into adulthood successfully.

Our youth outreach services can help find appropriate housing for youth who are currently homeless and provide financial assistance with first-month expenses. We can also make connections to other services such as mental health, chemical dependency counseling, education, domestic violence, MNsure, and food supports.

Living Independently from Experience (LIFE)

The Living Independently from Experience (LIFE) program is a transitional housing program for homeless youth age 18-24 experiencing homelessness in Itasca County and Koochiching County. Eligible youth are offered a variety of services to build a plan that will help stabilize their housing situations. Crisis intervention and ongoing support services include temporary and emergency vouchers, rental assistance, security deposits, utility assistance, moving expenses, temporary and emergency vouchers, and one-on-one case management. Connections are made to other needed services such as mental health, chemical dependency counseling, education, domestic violence, MNsure, and food supports.

Danial’s Story: Getting Back on Track

Danial was living with his family until things were not going so well. He was without a place to stay talked with his daughter who told him about Home on the Range Shelter and how it may be a good fit for his situation. He called the shelter where a room was available, and he was able to get back on track with his medical situation and work towards finding a home.

“I worked with case managers Alan, Shanel, and the rest of the staff. I felt like I was in a safe and peaceful environment, which resulted in me being able to complete my goals,” Danial said.

Danial found a great employment opportunity and an apartment that he now calls home. He expressed his gratitude for the help he received while at the shelter and now looks forward to creating a positive future.
