Offering Assistance for Septic Owners

AEOA administers different forms of financial assistance for septic owners – grants, deferred loans, and low-interest loans – with funding through St. Louis County.

 

Low Interest Loans

Low-interest loans to replace existing failing or non-conforming septic systems.

  • Maximum loan amount: $50,000
  • Maximum loan length: 10 years
  • Interest rate: 3%, monthly payments to St. Louis County
  • Required borrower contribution: $500, to be paid at the time of application
  • Credit Requirements: 620 credit score and 48% debt-to-income ratio
  • No income restrictions

 

Deferred Loans

Repair, replace, or upgrade any portion of an individual sewage treatment system deemed an Imminent Threat to Public Health (ITPH) or Non-Compliant.

  • Maximum loan amount: Dependent upon system design
  • Maximum loan length: 5 years, forgivable
  • Interest rate: 0%, no monthly payments
  • Required borrower contribution: $0
  • Income limits: See table below
  • Occupancy requirement: Must own and occupy for at least 3 years to be eligible
