Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)



Availability: Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Lake, and St. Louis Counties.

Eligibility: Able-bodied adults age 18 to 55 without dependents receiving food support.

Program Description: SNAP is designed to assist low income individuals, generally without dependents and ineligible for cash assistance, with job search and employment enhancing activities that will lead to self-sufficiency and an exit from public assistance.

The services provided mirror those of MFIP. Unlike MFIP, SNAP recipients do not face a five-year time limit, but counties require participants to earn Food Support after three months through paid employment , job search, adult education, classroom training, or unpaid community work experience activity.
